Patrick Dempsey has seen his career change dramatically thanks to a little TV show ‘’Grey’s Anatomy’’. Better known to millions of fans as McDreamy, the heartthrob has seen his career go up and down since first achieving fame as an adolescent. That was then, this is now. Happily married and father of two, Dempsey is genuinely warm, intelligent and says he handles his success with a genuine practicality. In his latest movie, ''Made of Honor'', the actor displays his comedic and romantic prowess as a philanderer who realizes he is in love with his best friend. Trouble is, she has asked him to be his maid of honor at her Scottish wedding. Dempsey talked to PAUL FISCHER.
How do you see the perfect romantic comedy?
PD: Well, hopefully entertaining and romance. Y’know, I think that’s the key. What we really talked about initially is it was important that we had a connection and that people would go on the ride with us. That’s what you want in a romantic comedy – is to have people that you want to see together and how do they overcome the obstacles that are in the way for that to happen.

THERE’S something about a TV doctor that can still set the pulses racing. Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey is testament to the fact. Just when he’d thought his career was hitting the “guest appearance” phase, along came Grey’s Anatomy – officially the most watched drama series on US television – and the role of lady-killing neurosurgeon Dr Derek Shepherd.
Before long, Dempsey’s bedroom eyes had worked their magic, with all and sundry (on and off the show) dubbing his character Dr McDreamy. And the cherry on the cake was a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series.
Now Dempsey – once a teen movie heart-throb in ’80s hits like Can’t Buy Me Love and Loverboy – is back on the radar, and to prove the point he’s grabbed his first leading movie role in more than a decade, in the feel-good romantic comedy Made of Honour.
“It’s unbelievable,” says Dempsey, who at 42 still sports his trademark thick mane of dark brown hair and that certain fresh-faced twinkle. “Every day I wake up and I can’t believe it, because it’s been too much fun and I’m having such a blast. But it’s been a long road to get to this point and I do really appreciate it.”

Hollywood actor PATRICK DEMPSEY constantly assures his wife he is sexy - so she feels confident about their relationship. The Made of Honor star uses reverse psychology to keep their marriage strong - so tells his wife Jillian Fink she is married to a sex symbol to make her feel appreciative. Dempsey, who has just been named the Sexiest Actor on TV in America, explains, "I let my wife know that I'm sexy all the time. She likes it. It's fun - I enjoy it. It's great for your confidence. And then you look in the mirror and go, `There's the reality'. "I think if we're out and women are disrespectful to our relationship, it's hard for her. (Women) can be very aggressive and difficult at times, and that's hard. I couldn't handle it as well as she does. "But I don't take it too seriously, and I do enjoy it."

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Patrick Dempsey are the sexiest woman and man on TV, according to TV Guide. “The Ghost Whisperer” star “has a great strut,” says the magazine. “She’s from Texas, so there’s a little bit of cowgirl in her.” Dempsey, says TV Guide, has “a beautiful head of hair, piercing eyes and dazzling smile.” Well, he ain’t “Grey’s Anatomy’s” McDreamy for nothin’! Other sexy stars steaming up the small screen include Dempsey’s co-star Justin Chambers, “Ugly Betty’s” Vanessa Williams, “Dancing With The Stars” hoofer Julianne Hough and “Lost’s” Josh Holloway.

Patrick Dempsey dons a kilt in the wedding comedy Made Of Honor. And OK! wanted to know what he was wearing under it? “Everything’s Versace,” he laughs at the movie premiere held at Ziegfeld Theater in NYC.
As his wife Jill holds her own on the pink carpet, Patrick, 42, sings her praises. “Without her, I wouldn’t be here,” he says. What’s the secret to a happy marriage? “Love, humor -- my wife is very funny — and communication is key,” he tells OK! “Those are the bedrocks of our relationship.”
Being that this movie is about the blunders surrounding a wedding, Patrick informed OK! there was only one blunder at his 1999 wedding. “The photographers at my wedding were just drunk, and never got a good picture,” he says.
The father of three blushes when asked about what qualities make him McDreamy, like his Grey’s Anatomy character. “I have no idea! I’m just having a good time and really enjoying what’s going on right now. I have a good time on the show. The role is really great, and it’s nice for people to project that onto me. I don’t lose sight of that.”
He says the serial dater he plays in this flick is nothing like him. “I live vicariously through him. But I could never do that. I’m married and have kids.”
Considering he takes part in his best female friend’s bridal party, does he relate to the Cameron Diaz or Julia Roberts character in My Best Friend’s Wedding? “I didn’t really think about it that much,” he says. “I didn’t watch it at all. We knew we were going to get that comparison, and we just wanted to make it our own movie and just have fun. Hopefully our relationship with what people look for will define it and hopefully we’ll lose those comparisons.”
